A zoo should be truly excellent and outstanding; there should be no second-class or second-rate zoos.

Cities with mediocre zoos should close them; cities and/or regions which desire a zoo should invest in a world-class one.  The idea of abolishing zoos for humane reasons offers appeal, yet the Bronx and San Diego Zoos seem worthwhile, and can positively contribute to greater society and the betterment of the world, for both humans as well as the other animals.
