Double Bill: AMÉLIE and LÉOLO

She’s an over-imaginative and lonely French girl in an Old World metropolis; he’s an over-imaginative and lonely French boy in a New World metropolis. Each retreats into surreal fantasy to escape their distant family relationships and their inability to connect emotionally or physically to others around them. Amélie and Léolo each meet a reclusive, even hermit-like, older man pursuing an artistic endeavor, who reaches out in order to connect, advise, and mentor. Each is portrayed by different actors as babies, children, and teenagers. One’s portrayed in a whimsical comedy and finds love, one’s in a bleak tragedy and never does. They’re the same… only different. If only we could have gotten these two together for a mutual sequel.
