Alison Redford’s Expenses

Well, I was once confused about the uproar over Alison Redford’s $17K for two government trips and the $45K for sending a delegation to Nelson Mandela’s funeral. The former didn’t strike me as that odd for a crew of executives to fly and stay and eat out with others in two cities, tho I admit I have never booked group executive travel myself. I imagine that flying a bunch of people into Johannesburg during such a crowding crush of people (arriving from the entire planet) during an historic occasion must be costly.

Since then, I have learned a lot more about Ms. Redford’s time in office and attitude there towards expenses, and I very much regret that she didn’t seize on the occasion of her taking office to leave a greater legacy for future women holding executive, public power.

Man, I was enthused over such heavy grrl-power representation in public office when there so many ladies serving a Premier; I hoped it might portend healthy, beneficial developments in the future, where solid diversity in leadership could make a more dynamic ecosystem of ideas.

I forgot that “woman” is just a label, and how we are all of course just mortal, human people.
